It’s kind of poetic that Carolina’s NHL team had to get its start in New England. I mean, you don’t think of NC and have hockey come to mind. But that shit is changing. There’s now a generation of fans who grew up with their parents loving the Hurricanes, especially with their maiden Stanley Cup win in 2006.
You’ve got ridiculously talented players like Andrei Svenchnikov who could control his stick in a porta-potty, beating defenders like it’s nothing and completing a record-equaling number of assists for the team. The play is dynamic and because the Canes aren’t quite at the top of the sport or even the salary cap, they have plenty of freedom to keep expanding with smart draft picks and free-agent signings.
